Traded in the old Ponderous mobile and bought a new one. The old one needed new tires and new brakes, badly. I spent a good while debating about getting those new tires and brakes, or putting that money towards a new ride. Yesterday I figured that it would be a good idea to test drive a new Vue. Never had any major issues with my 03 Vue, and the 08s were completely new. After the test drive I had made up my mind, new ride for me.

It isn’t completely out, just when its hot outside the air output is just barely cool. It use to be ice cold. I’m convinced that its just a refrigerant issue and not a burned out compressor. When I get a chance to run by a car parts store I’ll pick up a recharge kit and see if that helps. If not it’ll be up to a mechanic to determine the problem and hopefully fix it.

Update on the office migration from Lotus Notes to an Open Source based email system: Going pretty darn well, the first couple of days on the new system were touch and go. As users started using the new client their bitching and griping quieted down to background noise. Now a week and a half later everyone loves it.

Katrina: O.M.G., that pretty much sums up what I think about the events happening in the gulf coast along Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Chaos, utter chaos, but in that chaos a small band of dedicated IT professionals are holed up on the 10th floor of an office building in downtown New Orleans. Their mission is to keep the systems under their care inside directNICs datacenter. They’re doing a valiant job despite dwindling supplies, lack of water/sewer, and the hoards of undead zombies trying to break in and eat them alive. The head of the team has a blog where they are posting semi-regular updates, and they also have a webcam pointed to anything they seem fit to point it at.

Ok so there are no hoards of undead zombies beating at their door, but is there really a distinction between the undead and crazed looters stopping at nothing to pillage anything they can get their hands on?

Wow, its been a very long time since my last post. Of course it is entirely my fault for not taking the time to sit down and put my thoughts into text. So here it goes:

This is the first weekend I’ve had off in three weeks. Working 10-12 hour days, 7 days a week is t3h suxs, but the OT accumulated on the time card just almost worth it. Ok so not really worth it, Uncle Sam just takes more out of the paycheck.

The office is now on a 6Mb/s (4xT1) pipe to the Internet. A major improvement over the single T1 loop that has been in place since 2001. Note to anyone switching ISPs: make sure your DNS records are correct before pulling the plug on the old service.

Amy & I decided to part ways, it was best for us both. I wish her the best on whichever path she decides to follow.

The management of the apartment complex where I live will be inspecting all of the units on the property this week. This ought to be interesting, I count a couple of possible problems in my own Apartment: 1. Propane grill on the balcony. 2. Charcoal grill on the balcony. 3. Excessive piles of unopened mail :S

Joe and I went to the Midland Gun and Knife Show at the Midland Center downtown today. Talk about enough firepower to arm & equip a small army. Lots and lots of 2nd Amendment protected items for sale and/or trade. Joe walked out with a brand new Yugoslavian SKS (Type 59/66), with muzzle grenade launcher and grenade front sight. I’m still trying to figure out if not taking enough cash was a good thing, or a bad thing. Most likely a good thing, myself and a lethal weapon is definitely a bad thing.

Total volume of music files on my computer:

About 65GB of mp3/ogg music files accessible from either home or work.

The last CD I bought:

Death Cult Armageddon by Dimmu Borgen

Song playing right now:

Not really playing a song. Here at work I listen to Octane // 20 on Sirius Satellite Radio. In fact I’m usually listening to Sirius just about everywhere I have access to it, at home, at work, and on the road.

Five to ten songs I listen to a lot, or that mean a lot to me:

(In no particular order)
Chevelle – The Clincher
Sevendust – Angel’s Son
The Mars Volta – Televators
Seven Mary Three – My My
Soundgarden – Spoonman
Dark New Day – Brother
Tool (enough said here)
Metallica (again, enough said here)
Stone Temple Pilots (yet once more, enough said here)

Five people to whom I’m passing the baton:

Joe, Caleb, Slade, Mike Rice, and Aaron.
