Update on the office migration from Lotus Notes to an Open Source based email system: Going pretty darn well, the first couple of days on the new system were touch and go. As users started using the new client their bitching and griping quieted down to background noise. Now a week and a half later everyone loves it.
Katrina: O.M.G., that pretty much sums up what I think about the events happening in the gulf coast along Louisiana, Mississippi, and Alabama. Chaos, utter chaos, but in that chaos a small band of dedicated IT professionals are holed up on the 10th floor of an office building in downtown New Orleans. Their mission is to keep the systems under their care inside directNICs datacenter. They’re doing a valiant job despite dwindling supplies, lack of water/sewer, and the hoards of undead zombies trying to break in and eat them alive. The head of the team has a blog where they are posting semi-regular updates, and they also have a webcam pointed to anything they seem fit to point it at.
Ok so there are no hoards of undead zombies beating at their door, but is there really a distinction between the undead and crazed looters stopping at nothing to pillage anything they can get their hands on?
