Rude Awakenings
10/19/2004 02:10 AM: boom, boom, rattle, BOOM, BOOM, windows rattling. That’s what I was rudely awaken to this morning. Talk about putting me into a sour mood early in the day. I whole heartedly believe that music should be heard at the highest comfortable sound pressure level possible, but come on 2:00 in the morning? Show some respect. At first I thought it was my next door neighbor(s), but it turns out the disturbance is originating from the parking lot. Thinking that it would never end, and I would wind up unable to go back to bed, I decided to get up put some clothes on and head out to the offending automobile to politely ask them to turn the music off. As I approached the door to exit it suddenly got quiet–turns out the complex’s resident police officer had beaten me to the parking lot. As I watched out of my bedroom window the officer carded both the driver and his passenger, making them both wait for an I.D. check while they all stood outside in the cold. Thinking this was the end of the event I headed back to bed to get some more sleep. Then 10-15 minutes later I heard card doors being shut and the car driving off. What’s the moral of this story you ask? Respect the people you are around, just because you can rattle windows within 50 feet of your car doesn’t mean other people want to here it early in the morning while they are asleep–turn it down.
