It seems that yesterday afternoon was my turn at manning the PBLUG‘s IRC channel help desk. This was a new experience for me as I have never done tech support over IRC for a Linux system before, and it was a great experience. With all of the work that I have been doing with Linux I was actually able to assist a fellow PBLUG member with his troubles in repartitioning this /home file system. Granted it took us 3 hours to complete something which should have only taken 15 minutes, but not knowing the details of his installation made the task abit more cumbersome. In the end however we got the system back up and in complete working order. Here’s a log of the conversation just in case you are curious.

my system is down because I did a dumb thing. I set my PC to boot up to my username automatically. Then I set my gui to a bad gui menu entry. I boot straight to a black hole. Can you tell me the name of the file and the entry that will stop auto-boot to my profile, or the file that sets the default gui to boot to? or any other way to stop this mary-go-round?
